Mise en scene

The main male character comes across as the one with the authority – his costume suggests he has power as he wears a suit this could indicate he’s intelligence and also he’s power. He’s a dominating character as he is shown from a low angle to show he is above everyone else and to indicate that he has the most power as he is standing on the platform. He was at a higher level than everyone else which shows the power he has over everyone there. The security guard maintains a physical strength as he holds the others back and is threatening with his armed weapons, they are also shown in twos thic could indicate that they have the most power as there is two of them in the room and they are working together. The men are seen as the more dominant gender as the women are seen as the less powerful gender. The maids represent the stereotype of women cleaning and serving men. The maids are always shown as a two shot this shows how woman are less independent and they have another female with them to feel safe. The main female character shows a dominant attitude as the male character does feel threatened by her in ways. The other women in the scene such as the woman in the red dress are seen as the more feminine type which portrays her as the damsel in distress, she is also shown as wearing a silk type dress this could show her femininity, she is seen as being one of the weak characters as she stands on her own looking worried. 'The Doctor' is also shown as being weak and vulnerable in the beginning as he is locked in a cage and ha been turned into an old weak character, however it is shown when he gets he's poewer backs as he is then shown looking more lively and bright with a glow around him to show hes back in charge of the situation. The main female character dresses in a dominant way as if she is ready for business. She is not seen as a feminine type. Set in a sci-fi atmosphere with a lot of special effects and spaceship like features.

Cinetophraphy

The different camera shots used are Mid-shot to show some facial expression while also showing some body language. This enables the viewer to see how they are feeling. The low angle used when the other characters look up to the main man shows his dominant position and the power he maintains. This also shows the people below him as being less powerful and weak, they may also make them feel intimidated as they have to look up at him and may also make them believe that the has the most power. Seeing the female character in a high angle shot shows someone else has power over the male however she proves he will not win. Close up shots signifies the facial expressions of both genders however also shows both are equal as both genders get as much focus at that moment. Two shot for the maids as it shows solidarity between women and how they may feel more vulnerable when they are on their own as men are more independent and feel they dominate in this situation, at the end of the scene the maids hug the female character which shows they are comforting this shows a typical stereotype for women. Point of view shot shows the male looking at the time which adds tension to the scene as the clock is ticking and time is running out as they speak this also makes the viewer feel like they are actually there to as they see what the characters are seeing at that specific moment in time. 'The Doctor' is also shown as being less powerful at the beginning as he is shown from a high angle shot which shows him below everyone else, however he's power is regained when the characters believe in him again he is then seen as over powering everyone else as he is shown using a low angle shot which shows how he dominates in this situation, this is shown when the other male characters then gets portrayed as being weak as he is then shown as the vulnerable one as he is below the doctor. The sci-fi weapon used by the doctor adds tension and suspense as he has dominant power which makes us think what will happen next.

Sound

The sound in the beginning shows that there is like a meeting as there is quite a strong sound this could indicate something important is going to take place. There is also an alert sound to indicate something is going to happen very soon this creates tension. The ticking clock in the back ground shows how something is going to happen, this can create a tense atmosphere as everyone can hear the clock. In the end there are calm sounds to indicate something good is going to happen, the trumpets also indicate something good is going to happen, the sound gradually builds to a nicer sound to indicate happiness. The props in the scene have sharp sounds to add affect and to also show these are weapons which can make the characters feel threatneed. There is also a drum beat to build up the pace in the scene which can make people feel quite anxious. The drum beat could also indicated back to Martha to show that she is now the one in control and the roles have changed and the man has less powerful. The soundtrack in the back ground also gets louder to create excitement and to draw the audience in, this can make them want to watch on to see what happens. The cheering indicates that something good has happened. The use of major and minor key is also in the scene as the minor key indicates a soft sound and a major sound indicates a strong dominate sound.

Editing

In this scene there is the use of shot reverse shot editing this indicates the rivalry between the characters and this allows the audience to see both set of characters facial expressions. This also shows the two sets of people grouped together.

Ellipses- Shows us that she went around the world to talk to people and to make them more aware of who the doctor is and what he does. Back flash editing is also used to show us what he’s happened before hand this helps us keep up to date with what is happening. There is also the use of slow motion editing to show in detail what happens and to also emphasize the struggle she went through and to show that she is out of breath and tired.

There are also visual affects to show the doctor as being non-human and ‘god’ like, this also could show the doctor has having the most power as he has a glow around him. The cross cutting allows us to see all different people from different nations saying ‘doctor’ this shows how it is happening  all around the world.
